KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven deaths were reported on the third day of Ops Sikap yesterday, bringing the total number of fatalities in road accidents since last Friday to 44 people.
The fatalities in yesterday’s road crashes comprised three motorcycle riders, six car drivers and passengers and two van drivers.
A total of 973 accidents were recorded yesterday, 116 of them on highways, 186 on federal roads, 162 on state roads, 462 on municipal roads and 47 on other roads.
Some 9,192 summonses were issued for various traffic offences yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Civil Defence Department has launched Ops Bantu to give emergency assistance to motorists encountering problems during the festive period, its director-general Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid said.
