KUANTAN: A supper outing for five friends travelling in a newly-purchased used car turned out to be the last for three of them who were not wearing seat belts.
The five, from Pekan, were returning home about 3.30am yesterday when three of them were killed after their vehicle crashed into a tree at the Jalan Datuk Abu Samah-Teluk Chempedak junction.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmani Yusoff said the dead were rear seat passengers Mohd Hairi Mohamad Razali, 23, Mohd Hafiz Jantan, 24, and Sharifah Nor Jannah Syed Mohamed, 18.
Driver Mohd Ikhwan Mohamed, 18, escaped with minor injuries while co-driver, Abdullah Mohd Besar, 25, who is also the car owner, fractured his right arm.
It is learnt that Abdullah had bought the Honda Civic EX on Sunday while Ikhwan, who was driving, had just obtained his driving licence.
