475 summonses issued and 42 motorcycles seized in Christmas Ops

GEORGE TOWN: More than 475 summonses were issued, 42 motorcycles seized and two people detained during a major police operation here on Christmas eve.

The “Christmas Ops”, which started at 7pm on Christmas eve and lasted until 4am, was led by state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Yaakob and involved 100 traffic policemen and 20 Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers.

Traffic Operation Police Contingent and Enforcement officer Asst Supt Ahmad Ezzely Razali said vehicles were slapped with summonses for various offences including expired driving licence, expired road tax, forged road tax disc and false registration plates.

The summonses were issued at several locations – state police contingent (87), northeast police district (136), Seberang Perai Utara (126), Seberang Perai Tengah (42) and Seberang Perai Selatan (2).
