KUALA LUMPUR: More than 5,000 police personnel will be mobilised nationwide during Ops Sikap Xl from Oct 17 to Oct 31.
Federal police traffic chief SAC Nooryah Md Anvar said personnel from the General Operations Force and the Federal Reserve Unit would also be roped in.
"Greater attention will be given to federal roads as statistics showed many accidents occurred there. We have also pinpointed 32 spots along federal roads as accident-prone," Nooryah said at a Press conference.
She said three watch towers would also be erected in Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Perak to be used to monitor traffic on highways.
Emergency response teams will be stationed at the North-South Expressway toll plazas to attend to accidents while a free towing service will be available for stalled vehicles.
Nooryah said three police helicopters would also be placed on stand-by to provide air surveillance.
She said policemen stationed along roads and highways would not operate under canopies as in previous years as motorists were found to have slowed down upon seeing the brightly coloured tents.
Meanwhile, the ban on heavy vehicles taking to the roads during the festive season will be enforced from Oct 20 to Oct 21 and Oct 28 to Oct 29.
It involves lorries carrying timber, construction materials like cement and sand, cement mixer vehicles and heavy duty vehicles like cranes and low loaders.
For container or cargo lorries transporting electrical goods or goods from the harbour to airports, they are only allowed on the roads from 12am to 6am on the four days.
