Business operators are unhappy with the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) for making Jalan BCH 1A in Bandar Country Homes in Rawang a one-way street.
On May 9, a group of business operators met Rawang constituency coordinator Lee Li Yew and Selayang Parliament coordinator Chan Wun Hoong at Pusat Bandar Country Homes to voice their concerns.
The council had implemented the one-way traffic plan at only Jalan BCH1A on May 5.
Chicken rice stall owner Ng Seong Yew, 35, said many customers had stopped patronising the
stall after the one-way traffic plan was implemented.
“Only regular customers come here. Traffic congestion also occurs when the night market is held here on Friday. “The council should place proper signboards in the area alerting motorists on the route they should use,’’ he said.
Bandar Country Homes Esso station owner Saaimah Hashim, 48, said because of the traffic congestion, many motorists were driving into the petrol kiosk to take a short-cut.
“This causes a massive jam at the petrol kiosk and it is also affecting our business,’’ she said.
Lee said the council should have consulted residents before implementing the one-way traffic flow.
“There are no proper road signs to warn motorists and a couple of accidents have occurred since the road was made one-way,’’ he said.
MPS councillor Gunarajah R. George admitted that there were only a few signboards placed in the area.
“This is because we want to get residents and the business community to give their comments first on the traffic plan.
“Many residents have applauded the move including some community leaders. We will place the signboards when we are sure that the motorists are comfortable with the route.
“As for the motorists using the petrol kiosk as a shortcut, the council has suggested closing the side entrance to prevent motorists from entering the area.
“Instead of trying to solve petty issues, I suggest Lee and Chan solve the 15-year traffic congestion that residents in this township and the surrounding areas face daily in Jalan Rawang-Batu Arang.
