The Penang Hospital’s Board of Visitors is calling on the state government to solve the pro-blems of illegal parking and hawking at the hospital.
Its chairman Lim Thoon Deong said the state was still keeping quiet over the idea of building an underground car park proposed by Barisan Nasional last year.
“This is a good, people-centred plan where the car park would accommodate a shopping and hawker centre,” he said after the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Penang branch distribu- ted bubur lambuk and gifts to over 200 patients at the hospital on Sa-turday.
Lim added that the board would help in whatever way it could to assist the state government in tackling parking and hawking issues.
He said the board encouraged feedback from patients and the public on the clamping of cars that are parked illegally at the hospital.
“Clamping is one of the options (to solve illegal parking) and the board will see to its feasibility. If it can be done, we will do it. But we want to look into suggestions from the public,” he said.
He added that the board would discuss the clamping issue in the next full board meeting next month.
In an earlier report, Lim had said that parking was free at the hospital’s six-storey car park, which has 540 parking spaces, CCTVs and two disabled-friendly lifts.
