KUALA LUMPUR: Four women were cheated into parting with their mobile phones by a man disguised as a police officer in Bangsar last month.
The incidents, which took place on separate occasions, came to light when the first victim was stopped by a man claiming to be police inspector because she was using her mobile phone while driving.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the man preyed on female drivers who used their handphones while driving before "confiscating" them.
"The man would then tell the women to meet him at the Bangsar police station to pay the fines and collect their phones, only to disappear with the victim's belongings."
