Council gets tough on illegal parking Op against heavy vehicles in housing estates

An operation on heavy vehicles illegally parked in several Se- berang Prai housing estates saw 58 fines issued.

More than 80 people from the Seberang Prai Municipal Council, Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) as well as police officers took part in the operation.

“We were acting on complaints from residents about the vehicles which were not supposed to be parked in the housing areas,” said councillor Francis Ong.

“Such vehicles have been found to be damaging roads and drains in these areas,” he told reporters after the operation.

Ong said the bulk of the summonses were issued by the council (46) followed by the JPJ (seven) and police (five).

He added that the operation started at 8pm on Sunday and ended at about midnight.

“The operation was conducted by a special team which was formed after the council received numerous complaints from housing estate residents about heavy vehicles damaging public amenities.

“The operation will be ongoing. We also towed a school bus which was illegally parked back to the council building in Jalan Betek,” he added.
