It has been two weeks since a set of traffic lights near the Ampang Jaya police station has been damaged in an accident yet no repair work has been carried out.
The damaged traffic lights is a cause of concern for parents and motorists.
Though the lights are still functioning its position as been altered and motorists coming out of Jalan Pekan, Ampang or Bukit Belacan now just drive without stopping if there are no vehicles at the intersection.
Party Gerakan Ampang division chairman G. Parameswaran and division secretary Husain Bahaudin went to the scene to check on the traffic lights after receiving complaints from residents on Friday morning.
“I thought it would have been repaired by now as I was told the traffic lights was damaged more than two weeks ago,” said Parames-waran.
If the local authorities see no urgency in repairing the traffic lights in front of a police station then do you think they will be quick to attend to residents’ problems in other areas?” asked Parameswaran.
He said besides posing a danger to motorists it also put schoolchildren’s lives in danger.
“The cables are hanging out of the traffic lights and I have noticed schoolchildren ducking when they pass the traffic lights to prevent touching the wires,” he said.
“A vehicle must have knocked the traffic lights,” said Param, a waste water consultant and soil specialist.
He urged the local authorities to act immediately to prevent any untoward incidents.
Ampang Jaya police station officer in charge for the day Corporal Alias Md Zain said he was not aware of the matter.
