Flyover open to monitor traffic flow

The flyover linking USJ Heights and Subang Heights to USJ in Subang Jaya is now opened to traffic.

However, a slip road, which was agreed to be built by the developer from USJ to the Kesas Highway to prevent further congesting Persiaran Tujuan, has not been built. But the USJ residents were assured that the condition has not been waived.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said the flyover across Kesas Highway was opened for trial only to monitor the traffic flow.

“So far, there are 2,000 vehicles using the flyover (both bounds) a day,” she said.

Earlier, the residents of USJ 3 A, B, C, D had opposed to the opening of the flyover as they were worried that Shah Alam residents would use this shortcut to get to Persiaran Setia, then Persiaran Tujuan, to head towards Subang Jaya and Puchong.

Therefore, the slip road was very much needed to take traffic off Persiaran Tujuan but its location has yet to be determined.

The earlier suggestion to have the slip road at SS19 or USJ 3 was rejected by Kesas and the Malaysian Highway Authority.

“In a meeting with Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) representatives, Kesas said a professional study must be carried out to identify the best location for the slip road.

“A traffic study, costing RM300,000, would be conducted on three townships — Batu Tiga, Subang Jaya and USJ,” she said.

Yeoh added that Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had requested MPSJ to constantly monitor the traffic on Persiaran Tujuan.

“He said the solution to the traffic problem was not building more roads and flyovers, and MPSJ should station its enforcement officers to manage the traffic.

“MPSJ president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan had told Khalid that the council has enough manpower for the task,” she said.
