A 600m stretch of the Federal Highway near Klang was closed to traffic from Wednesday night to facilitate upgrading works.
Sungai Pinang state assemblyman Teng Chang Khim reminded motorists to be more cautious when using the road.
Teng said piling works to build a flyover on a section of the major road leading into the heart of Klang town were expected to begin soon.
The road will be closed for the 18 months it would take to complete the project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the Royal town.
Only the two inner lanes on each side of the highway from Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim (near RHB bank) to the Kota Bridge (near Plaza MPK) would be closed while the two outer lanes on both sides would remain open.
“Confusion on the first day of the change cannot be avoided and motorists will need time to adjust,” Teng said.
Teng had received complaints from business owners that the construction and closure of roads would affect their businesses. However, he asked the public to bear with the inconvenience as it would benefit them in the long run.
He added that the Public Works Department had said building the flyover was the only solution to current and future traffic woes in Klang.
Teng urged all road users to follow the instructions of traffic policemen and signboards on display.
He said traffic policemen would be stationed at major junctions in the town to man traffic from 6am to 9am, noon to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm daily.
Teng also advised motorists to use alternative routes from Bandar Baru Klang to Meru, from the Connaught Bridge to Kampung Jawa and from Jalan Batu Tiga to Jalan Tengku Kelana.http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?f ... ec=central
