THE agony of waiting for the completion of the RM32.3mil flyover and a roundabout in Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim is about to end soon. Work is nearing completion and the traffic congestion caused by the project will soon be a thing of the past.
The flyover connecting both sides of Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim to Jambatan Kota over the Bulatan Seratus, was completed in stages about two months ago.
The delay in the completion of the project by SPAZ Sdn Bhd had earlier created an uproar among motorists and the Klang residents.
The project, which was scheduled to be completed by the end of last year was stretched to almost three years from the time the project started in late 2007.
However, the construction of a roundabout to facilitate the diversion of traffic from the highway to Jalan Kapar and Meru is still in progress.
A check by StarMetro revealed that the construction of the roundabout is almost 80% completed.
Currently, a slip road leading from Jambatan Kota to Jalan Kapar has been completed and partially opened to motorists since last week.
An official for the Klang Public Works Department said the work on the roundabout was nearing completion.
Another slip road from the town leading to Jambatan Kota is now being built.
“We expect the roundabout and slip road to be open in two weeks,’’ he said
Once opened, the official said motorists in Klang town would enjoy smoother drive.
StarMetro had on numerous occasions highlighted the plight of the motorists over the traffic congestion caused by the project.
