PETALING JAYA: Malaysians using foreign-registered vehicles will no longer be allowed to buy subsidised RON95 petrol despite showing their MyKads, effective today.
However, motorcyclists will not be affected by the move, which is being implemented following the abuse of MyKads.
Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV) products would also no longer be sold to foreign-registered vehicles from today given the high usage, the Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry said in a statement yesterday.
The Government banned the sale of RON95 petrol to foreign-registered vehicles beginning Aug 1 last year but Malaysians who showed their MyKad as verification had been exempted from the rule.
The ministry said it decided to revoke the exemption following feedback that there were discrepancies and abuse in the use of MyKad for the purchase of the RON95 petrol.
“Petrol station operators located at border areas have also complained of the difficulties in controlling and ensuring the rule is fully implemented.
“As such, the Government feels that it is best to impose a ban on all foreign-registered vehicles except for motorcycles,” added the statement.
