PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd has launched a recall exercise to fix 21,956 units of the third-generation City 2009 year model and 1,680 units of the second-generation Jazz 2009 and 2010 year models.
The exercise involves replacing retainers and lost motion springs which may bend or break over time, resulting in irregular engine noises and stalled engines.
No crashes or injuries have been reported in connection with this issue. The problem does not affect other Honda models sold in Malaysia.
Honda Malaysia managing director and chief executive officer Yoichiro Ueno said affected vehicle owners would be informed soon.
“We sincerely apologise to our customers and deeply regret the inconvenience caused by this predicament. The customers are our priority,” he said in a statement.
Honda Malaysia said inspection charges and part replacement work would be borne by the company.
A 2009 Honda City owner, Steven Choo, said he appreciated Honda Malaysia’s honesty.
“I think this is the right way of addressing the issue rather than sweeping it under the carpet and hoping owners do not find out about it,” said Choo, who is an advertising account manager.
