MALACCA: An 18-year-old girl was killed when her motorcycle was involved in an accident involving four cars believed to have been racing along an expressway here on Friday.

The accident happened about 10pm along the Alor Gajah-Jasin Expressway, as Nur Mardiana Hidayu Abd Malek was coming out from a junction on her motorcycle after visiting her relatives in Rembia.

Alor Gajah traffic chief, Chief Inspector Mohd Zuki Abdul Ghani said that she was thrown off her motorcycle, when it was hit by one of the cars, and landed on the side of the road.

The other cars then hit her and her motorcycle while a relative, Nur Fazana Umar, also 18, who was riding pillion, broke her leg when she fell.
Nur Mardiana was killed on the spot.

The driver of the last car who stopped and found her dead, later went to the Alor Gajah police station to have his statement recorded.

"The duo were riding back home to their uncle's house in Rumah Awam Rembia from Batu 10 Jalan Lama Rembia after delivering some fruits and vegetables to their grandparents."

He said Nur Mardiana's motorcycle was hit by four cars believed to be in a midst of an illegal race from Alor Gajah to Malacca town.

"The drivers of three of the cars fled the scene.

"We have classified the case as hit-and-run and are in the process of identifying these cars," he said, adding that witnesses could contact the district traffic police at 06-5563222.

Nur Mardiana's uncle, Umar Bujal, 52, who is also Nur Fazana's father, when met at the Malacca General Hospital emergency unit on Friday night, said the girls had earlier been helping him to sell drinks at the Rembia night market.

Umar said Nur Mardiana, who was awaiting for her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia results, had been staying in his house over the past month.
