IPOH: Continuous downpour over the past few days have caused a mudspill over a 50m-stretch of the highway between Ipoh and Lumut near Tronoh, temporarily closing that part to traffic.
Mud which spilled over from a hill slope on the Ipoh-bound side of the highway began covering three-quarters of the highway from 4pm on Friday.
Tronoh assemblyman V. Siva-kumar said due to the danger it posed to motorists, the Public Works Department had decided to seal off a portion of the highway about 15km from here at 5pm the same day.
Motorists made a detour near Pusing because of the incident.
“The detour has been causing a bit of a traffic crawl but we hope motorists will bear with the inconvenience at the moment for their own safety,” he said after visiting the site yesterday.
Sivakumar said PWD workers started cleaning up the mud since Friday night.
He said the PWD engineers were also investigating if the mud spill could have been caused by the presence of a quarry on the top of the hill slope.
