Jalan SS16 to be one-way road

JALAN SS16 in Subang Jaya will be turned into a one-way road to facilitate the construction of the LRT route.

This decision was made during a meeting between Prasarana Negara Bhd and the residents recently.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president Datuk Asmawi Kasbi said the meeting was the final one between the two parties.

He said the residents and Prasarana had finally come to terms over their differences and the project to build the LRT route in SS16 Subang Jaya could be carried out soon.

“We will turn Jalan SS16 into a one-way road to facilitate the construction work.

“I also urge the operators of the shopping complexes in this area to tell shoppers to park in the basement and not along the road,’’ he said.

He added that indiscriminate parking would only contribute to traffic woes.

Also, MPSJ and Prasarana have been told to ensure the safety of the residents while carrying out work on the LRT route.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said work on the project should be carried out with caution so that it would not affect the residents in Saujana Residency.

Yeoh said this was necessary because the project was only four metres away from some of the condominium blocks.

“The residents have expressed their concern over the proximity of the project and they want assurance that the project will bring them no hardship,” she said after the meeting.

Yeoh said it was the council’s responsibility to ensure the contractor followed all the guidelines.

She said the contractor must be monitored at all times so that the residents would be assured of their safety. “They have to ensure that sound and vibration levels do not exceed the permitted level or cause damage to the properties,” she said

Joint Management Team chairman Markus Tan had also urged the council to ensure the traffic system in the area was well controlled.

He said the council had a big role to play so that the residents would not be at a loss once work on the LRT route started.

“We have requested Prasarana for a 200m-long sound barrier but they have only agreed to build walls measuring 100m and 50m.

“The 100m-wall will be fully covered while the remaining 50m will be partially covered,’’ he said.

Asmawi said the project would be carried out from 8am to 7pm daily except on Sundays.
