Johor Buzz: With traffic lights, it's now a safer stretch

TRAFFIC congestion at the junction of Jalan Kim Kee and Jalan Sungai Abong in Muar over the past 15 years became a thing of the past when traffic lights were installed there early this month.

The RM100,000 project brought relief to at least 5,000 road users, particularly nearby residents who were the worst affected.

The junction was dubbed a death stretch due to the many accidents occurring there, especially involving motorcyclists.

Salmah Ismail, 49, an executive with a trading company, said the junction, near the Muar Technical College and the Road Transport Department office, was the main route for residents of several housing estates and traffic coming from Pagoh. She said the junction was always choked with vehicles during peak hours.

"I wonder why the traffic lights were only installed now. Many parents were worried about the safety of their children who go to school on bicycles and motorcycles."
Salmah said the installation of traffic lights at the stretch had eased the worries of these parents.

Tadika Islam Masjid Jamek Sungai Abong chairman Salihin Mohd Surat said he felt more confident of the safety of his charges now.

"The traffic lights have also benefited those coming to the mosque."
