KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will tighten enforcement of traffic rules from Thursday as Muslims begin their journey back to their hometowns ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said more JPJ personnel would be deployed at deadly stretches as the "balik kampung" rush was expected to peak on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
He said JPJ would monitor 152 deadly stretches in Johor and take stern action against traffic offenders, especially errant express bus drivers.
Solah said heavy vehicles, except for those carrying consumer and healthcare goods, would be banned from roads on Aug 27 and 28, and on Sept 3 and 4.
Operators who defy the order will have their lorries seized and slapped with compounds, he added.
