MIRI: A 24-hour Road Transport Department (JPJ) facility enabling people to renew their road tax and driving licences at kiosks similar to automated teller machines will be available nationwide soon.
Another innovative service will comprise mobile JPJ units going to interior longhouses and border settlements to conduct motorcycle riding and driving tests and the renewal of licences and road tax.
In announcing this here yesterday, JPJ director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said the department wanted to revolutionise its service.
“We want to turn JPJ into a department that offers the most innovative and efficient service. We want to shed the misconception that JPJ is a problematic department.
“Due to its important role, JPJ must perform at the highest standard and the new services will reflect our quality,” he said at a press conference here.
He said the 24-hour service to renew road tax and licences would start soon and every JPJ office nationwide would be equipped with unmanned kiosks.
“The counter service will still be retained.
“The Federal Treasury has approved RM280mil for this computerisation exercise.
“By the end of the year, the service will be available nationwide,” he said.
JPJ would not have to retrench any staff members despite the introduction of the automated renewal machines, added Solah.
