KL-Ipoh shuttle train service to end

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur shuttle train service will be scrapped on July 1 to make way for the electric train service (ETS).

"The ETS is currently serving the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur-Seremban route and offers more convenience to passengers," KTM Berhad's executive corporate communications officer Kelvin Khew said yesterday.

He said the high demand for Intercity coaches, especially during festive seasons, also spurred KTM's decision.

"The coaches from the shuttle train service will be attached to express trains so they can accommodate more passengers."

The shuttle train service, which was introduced in 2007, provided a cheap alternative for travel between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh.

The cost for the journey one-way was only RM22.

A one-way journey from either Kuala Lumpur or Ipoh took three hours, but with ETS, it was shortened to two hours.

Those who wish to take the ETS have three options to choose from.

The first choice is the Platinum train which is a direct, non-stop service, costing RM45; the Gold train has nine stops and costs RM35; while the Silver train has 12 stops, costing RM25.

On a daily basis, the Platinum train has one service, the Gold train has three services and the Silver train has two services.
