Kuala Lumpur motorists: Poor enforcement leads to bad parkin

Postby admin » Wed Apr 16, 2008 2:35 am

KUALA Lumpur City Hall has failed to enforce parking regulations in the Golden Triangle area.
Taking a walk from the UBN Tower in Jalan P. Ramlee to Tengkat Tong Shin, through Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Nagasari, I counted almost 300 illegally-parked cars. This included cars parked in side streets.

There has also been a marked increase in cars parked on the sidewalk itself.

Perhaps it is time to have a minimum monthly ticket quota for enforcement officers.

I saw a strange incident in Changkat Raja Chulan, behind AMSecurities.
Two traffic wardens only ticketed certain cars that were parked illegally along the yellow line and not all the cars.

I have seen wardens walk past long lines of illegally-parked cars in Jalan Nagasari.

Chronic illegal parking results in increased traffic jams.

Proper enforcement of the rules eases traffic congestion and encourages more people to take public transport.

There will then be no need for Singapore-style road-pricing.
