Kuang assemblyman Abdul Shukor Idrus has asked the KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (Latar) management to consider building an exit at Kundang to ease traffic congestion.

On June 23, Latar was officially opened to the public by Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor. Motorists can use the new highway to travel between Templer’s Park and Kuala Selangor.

In conjunction with the opening of the highway, motorists are exempted from paying toll until Aug 31.

Shukor said there was an access road to the highway from Kundang but motorist could not exit the highway there.

“At present, residents in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Batu Arang, Kundang and Kuang have to use either the NKVE’s Sungai Buloh or Rawang tolls to get to their townships.

“If motorists use Latar, they will have to leave the highway near the Sungai Buloh prison, which is a longer route for them to reach their townships.

“If the Latar management can make an exit in Kundang, it would ease traffic congestion at both the Rawang and Sungai Buloh toll plazas. This would also reduce travelling time by about half-an-hour for the residents here,” he said.

Abdul Shukor said that Latar was built at a cost of RM958mil and, judging from the design, it would not cost much extra to add an exit at Kundang.

“The management should not look at profits alone but also look into the needs of residents in the surrounding townships.
