Magistrate Parvin Hameedah Natchiar also suspended his driving license for four years from Wednesday.

The magistrate sentenced him after hearing his sworn evidence.

Tan was found guilty of driving his car in a dangerous manner and causing the death of motorcyclist Haizeel Izman Masrur, 25, at Jalan Loke Yew here on Oct 28, 2003.

He had, on May 18, 2005, claimed trial to the charge punishable under the Road Transport Act 1987 (amended 1999).

Prosecuting officer Chief Insp Abdullah said had applied for the court to impose an appropriate sentence against Tan.

Pleading for leniency, his lawyer Ali Munawar said that his client was only 19 years old when he committed the offence and was a first-time offender.
