KUALA TERENGGANU: A 48-year-old tow- truck operator nearly lost an arm after he was attacked by a car-loan defaulter armed with a sword.
The suspect who had failed to settle five months' instalments, slashed the victim twice outside his house in Kampung Tok Jiring, here on Sunday.
During the 4.20pm incident, the victim and his five friends went to the suspect's house to retrieve a car. Upon arrival, the victim and a friend approached the suspect to show the repossession letter issued by the bank.
State Criminal Investigations Department chief Assistant Commissioner K. Manoharan said after he read the letter, the suspect went into the house and returned with a sword. He then slashed him twice on his left arm.
The victim from Kuala Berang was taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah hospital where doctors amputated and preserved his arm before referring him to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian.
The victim later had an operation to reattach his arm
