10.18am: RAWANG: Cleaning up work at the landslide area has begun but the road will remain close at least until 7am tomorrow.

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said it could be further delayed if it is raining.

"Our priority is to clear the road which has over 80,000 users daily," he said adding that the Public Works Department would have to certify it safe and fit to be used before it is re-opened.

He has ordered an investigation to find out the cause of the landslide.

Shaziman urged the Selayang Municipal Council to issue a stop work order to the developer of the housing project on the affected hillslope.

9.40am: RAWANG: Workers, with the help of heavy machinery, have started clearing tonnes of earth from the road.

Cleaning-up work is expected to start soon as Public Works Department director-general Datuk Mohamed Husin has given the green light for workers to clear the landslide area.

However, it is not known if the road will be re-opened today.

8.56am: RAWANG: Police have re-directed all traffic building up from both Selayang and Rawang to make a U-turn and use the North-South highway instead. This is to allow heavy machinery to have easy access to the landslide area.

The Rawang - Kuala Lumpur trunk road is still closed to all traffic

8.47am:Excavators and backhoes are brought in to the scene and the operators are waiting for clearance from the Smart team to clear the road.

8.45am: Public Works Department director-general Datuk Mohamed Husin is at the scene. The road is under their care.

8.24am:The Smart team has arrived at the landslide scene at KM10 of Rawang - Kuala Lumpur trunk road to look for possible trapped vehicles and victims beneath the rubble.

Several hours earlier, the K9 unit of the police and fire and rescue department failed to sniff out human scent.

7.51am: Meanwhile, traffic has started building up from both sides of the road, with motorists unaware of the massive landslide.
Heavy vehicles have been despatched to the area to clear the rubble.

6.38am An early morning landslide at KM12, Batu 9, Jalan Ipoh has forced the closure of the Rawang - Kuala Lumpur trunk road near Templer's Park.

Search and rescue teams are at the scene to look for victims trapped in the rubble.

The authorities were alerted by flat dwellers nearby who heard rumbles at 2.45am.

Gombak deputy police chief Superintendent Rosly Hassan advised motorists from Rawang heading towards Kuala Lumpur and those heading to Rawang town to use the North South highway.

However, those living in the area can use an alternative route nearby to turn into Selayang Muncipal Council.
