KUALA LUMPUR: Mat Rempit may have been behind the mob attack on five people in a car which nearly crashed into another vehicle involved in an accident in Jalan Loke Yew on Sunday.
City Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC II Ku Chin Wah said a man in his 20s lodged a report at the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee traffic police headquarters yesterday, claiming that about 30 Mat Rempit were involved.
He said the report stated that the driver had braked hard to avoid the car which had been involved in an earlier accident, causing a motorcycle to knock into his car.
The motorcyclist called his friends who converged on the spot minutes later and assaulted the driver and four passengers.
The driver and a passenger fled after receiving blows from the mob.
The driver claimed that his handphone was stolen in the incident.
Ku said police would have to question a few people before arriving at a conclusion.
"We have obtained photographs of the incident from the media."
It was reported that an off-duty policeman had made a U-turn in the road about 3.30am leading to a collision that left the motorcyclist dead.
Shortly after that, another motorcycle crashed into the car, leaving the rider and pillion seriously injured.
It was at this point that the second car came to a sudden stop on seeing a crowd atthe scene of the earlier accident.
