KUALA LUMPUR: A Mat Rempit gang that terrorised its victims by threatening to beat them with helmets has been busted after police arrested three members recently.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said the three, aged between 20 and 25, were members of the “Black Gang”, so named after their leader’s nickname.
“Our investigations revealed there were at least three such cases in the district every week.
“The group would gather at a predetermined place in the evening and would go looking for victims after midnight,” he said at his office here yesterday.
The members, all odd-job workers, are believed to be involved in at least eight robberies in Sentul since early last year.
“Once they spot a victim, four or five of them would rob him while their accomplices keep watch,” ACP Zakaria said.
He said that, following a tip-off, police managed to arrest two suspects on Dec 30 in Wangsa Maju and a third suspect in Selayang on Jan 4.
