KUALA LUMPUR: The car number plate "MCA 1" has been sold for RM300,100, the Road Transport Department of Malacca announced in a statement yesterday.
It did not name the successful bidder.
The number plates "MCA 2" went for RM101,000 and "MCA 8" for RM88,168.
The statement said the RTD received 965 bids for numbers in the "MCA" number plate series issued by Malacca.
The highest number of bids was 15, for the "MCA 888" plate which was offered at RM15,400.
Prior to this, the highest price paid for a car number plate was RM242,000 for "TAY 1" followed by RM200,900 for "TAN 1", both issued by Terengganu.
The statement said the RTD expected to earn RM1.5 million from the tender for the "MCA" series of number plates, compared with the average amount of RM500,000 from previous tenders.
The RTD reported that it managed to collect between RM145 million and RM150 million a year on average through its tender deals and revenue from number plate registrations.
