KUALA LUMPUR: Ticket vending machines at LRT and KL Monorail stations will start accepting the new Bank Negara Malaysia coins from next month.

The company was working overtime to ensure the new coins could be accepted by its machines at the earliest possible date, said Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd group director for rail division Khairani Mohamed.

Both the LRT and Monorail networks are using the automatic fare collection integrated ticketing system where tickets are dispensed via the vending machines in the form of tokens for single journey travel or to add value into MyRapid Card.

Khairani said that while waiting for the new software to be installed, commuters could exchange the new coins at Prasarana’s counters for old coins to use in the machines.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to commuters. I strongly recommend commuters use our stored value MyRapid Cards for smoother travel within the LRT and monorail networks. That will eliminate the need to use coins,” he said.
