Motorists using Jalan Baiduri SS1/36, Petaling Jaya heading towards the SMK Taman SEA before the cross junction would soon find the single-lane on the left side widened to three-lanes.
This is to alleviate the traffic snarl that has affected road users over the years.
Only 80m of the stretch would be widened, where a one metre gabion wall below the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) 132Kv power lines would be demolished and pushed in 1.5m to widen the road.
Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San said Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has secured the approval of TNB and the Road Safety Department to widen the bend along the road and build a straight stretch into three lanes.
“It would cost RM200,000. Most residents have requested for these extra lanes as the traffic congestion blocks their path to enter or exit their neighbourhood at Jalan SS1/32,” he said, adding the construction would take three months.
Regular road users Wong Ah Kow, 56, and Jeeva Kandiah, 75, said building the extra lanes was a good idea but MBPJ must ensure a pedestrian walkway was built along the stretch as school children and old folk walk the stretch.
