KUALA TERENGGANU: The cost of the second bridge linking Kuala Terengganu and Bukit Datu will be slashed by RM40 million with a proposed new route which will also disperse traffic more efficiently during peak hours.
Instead of the estimated cost of RM290 million, the bridge will now cost RM250 million after the earlier plan to build it at Tanjung Sabtu was scrapped in favour of the Semarak junction, which is about three kilometres nearer to the town centre and directly linked to the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said it would be easier for people travelling from the north either from Gong Badak or out-of-state travellers from Kota Baru to come here using the new route.
"It is also in line with our future development plans, including the possibility of making Kuala Nerus a new district, separate from Kuala Terengganu."
