SEREMBAN: The Seremban-Kuala Pilah road linking the east coast to north-western Johor from here has been closed to heavy vehicles indefinitely following several landslips.

The state authorities have also closed the Jalan Miku-Kg Batu Rembau road as certain stretches were unpassable to traffic following the landslides on Sunday evening.

State Infrastructure and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Ismail Lasim said motorists from Bahau would have to go through Tampin to reach Seremban.

“Our engineers are already working to stabilise the affected areas but it will take time before both stretches are opened to all traffic,” he said at the state Public Works Department.

Thousands of motorists use the Seremban-Kuala Pilah stretch daily to get to Kuantan and north-western Johor.

Ten landslips, two serious, had occurred along that stretch.

Ismail said three other stretches which were closed on Sunday night had since been reopened to traffic. They are Jalan Seremban-Mantin, Jalan Terachi- Sri Menanti and Jalan Lenggeng-Mantin via Bukit Puyuh.

In Malacca, heavy rains caused flash floods, forcing 40 families to evacuate in Kampung Teluk Berembang, Kampung Pengkalan Pauh and Lubuk China town. They were allowed to return home after several hours.

The rain, which started at about 2.30am, caused Sungai Rembau in Negri Sembilan to overflow and inundate several villages by up to 1.5m of water.

Lai Yet Lin, 72, said flash floods were common but yesterday’s was the worst in the last 10 years.
