No engine problem using RON 95

BERA: Claims that the RON 95 fuel is not suitable for most petrol vehicles as it causes them to be underpowered is not true, said Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minis-ter Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the Government had studied the RON 95 fuel and got views from professionals before it was introduced to the market.

Ismail Sabri added that the fuel, which is at RM1.80 per litre, could contribute to a cleaner environment compared to RON 97 which is now priced at RM2.05 per litre.

RON 95, he said, is widely used in European countries.

“There is no problem with the RON 95 (fuel) as claimed; perhaps they (motorists) should check their car engine before blaming the fuel.

“However, cars that are 3,000cc and above need RON 97 or premium fuel,” Ismail Sabri told reporters at the Bera parliamentary constituency’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Dataran Bera here yesterday.

Noticing the complaints in the newspapers on the quality of RON 95, Ismail Sabri advised complainants to get views from experts for better information.

Meanwhile, Bernama quoted Ismail Sabri as saying that the price and supply control scheme enforced by the ministry had brought desired impact during Ramadan.

He added that the ministry did not receive any complaints on price increases or shortages of essential items during the fasting month.

Ismail Sabri said 18 items came under the price control scheme for two weeks ending yesterday.

“There were no hoardings reported and the goods were sold below ceiling prices,” he said.

At the same time, he said ministry officers have been working extra hours during the holidays to ensure that prices were not manipulated.
