Come Sunday morning, Malaysians will unite for the year’s most highly anticipated regional run organised by adidas Malaysia titled the adidas “King of the Road” (KOTR) 2011.
The two-category run —16.8km and 10km — will take place along the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) starting and ending at the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre.
adidas Malaysia Brand Communications and Sports Marketing manager Bryan Gee Chou-Wei together with the NPE will be working closely with the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Kuala Lumpur district police to close off approximately 50 junctions.
During the run, the NPE traffic team and the traffic police will also patrol these areas to further ensure the safety of the runners.
Preparations are also under way by the NPE concenssionaire to alleviate traffic woes as motorists are diverted to other routes. The NPE will be closed to traffic in stages.
Partial traffic closures will begin from 3am and full closure by 5am. However, the expressway will be reopened by 11am.
NPE public relations executive Mohd Halmiee Saharudin said alternative routes have been planned for traffic diversions to facilitate the mobility of the local communities along the NPE.
“We are working closely with the highway concessionaire and joint sponsors, as well the MHA and the police to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Subang Jaya traffic police head Insp Khairul Rahman Rahmat said if an emergency occurs, residents could come out to the NPE and request the help of the policemen stationed along the route.
