PETALING JAYA: The RM1.60 toll for motorists heading to Bandar Sunway from Kuala Lumpur at the Petaling Jaya Selatan 2 (PJS 2) toll plaza of the New Pantai Expressway has been reduced to RM1 from today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced this yesterday at a Chap Goh Mei celebration with residents of Taman Datuk Hormat here.
"We promised to do the best for the people and this is another example of it," he told a crowd of 2,500.
The toll for KL-bound motorists was abolished more than two years ago. The RM1.2 billion NPE, stretching 19.5km, was opened on April 30, 2004. It is managed by concessionaire New Pantai Express Way Sdn Bhd.
Najib said Barisan Nasional not only respected the diversity in religions, culture and language, it also upheld the principles of social justice.
Citing an example, Najib said the government had used RM1.2 billion for various programmes to assist the poor, including the hardcore poor and low-income groups, such as senior citizens, single mothers and the handicapped.
He said the government did not waste time when it came to administering the country or engaged in petty quarrels.
"We don't call for a special sitting of the state legislative assembly, which is futile. This is not something that will benefit the people. It is a waste of time and to gain political mileage."
He said the Chap Goh Mei gathering showed that the 1Malaysia concept had the support of people of various races.
Najib, who presented ang pow of RM200 to 650 aged, disabled and needy in the area, said he looked forward to the people's support.
"Whenever ang pow is mentioned everyone likes to receive it. I, too, am interested in getting ang pow but mine is in the form of support for BN when the time comes."
