PUTRAJAYA: Farmers markets (pasar tani) will soon be seen located along major highways in the Klang Valley, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed.
He said 11 locations have been identified, five along the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong and two each along the PLUS, Kesas and Elite highways.
The feasibility of the identified areas would be studied soon before the infrastructure works are prepared, he said, adding that the market stalls would be located at rest and recreational areas.
The 11 pasar tani are part of the 50 new markets the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) has planned to set up by December, he added.
Mustapa said the rising cost for fuel and food was one reason behind increasing the number of pasar tani nationwide.
"Now the biggest issue or problem facing the people is the escalating cost for goods and shortage of foodstuff.
