KUANTAN: Motorcyclists who try to save RM2 by not paying their road tax could end up losing their bikes and having to pay a fine of RM2,000.
The Road Transport Department (RTD) will confiscate the motorcycle if the owner does not renew the road tax within 14 days of expiry, and he or she will be charged and could be fined, said State RTD director Datuk Zakaria Man.
"They only have to pay RM2 for road tax. On top of that, they get a RM150 rebate from the government," he said during an operation to nab overloaded lorries at the Kuantan-Kuantan Port bypass road yesterday.
On yesterday's operation, he said the RTD was using the Swiss-made portable weighing machine
At least four lorry drivers were compounded for overloading. Thirty-two RTD officers were involved in the four-hour operation.http://www.nst.com.my/Friday/National/2 ... index_html
