PETALING JAYA: About 1.4 million motorists are expected to use the North-South Expressway during the balik kampung exodus in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration which falls on Jan 23 and 24.
PLUS managing director Datuk Noorizah Abdul Hamid said the number would be a 30% increase compared to the normal rate of 1.1 million vehicles.
“The 30% increase will begin before the celebration, that is from Jan 20 until Jan 22, and also after the celebration from Jan 24 until Jan 29,” she said after launching the travel time advisory (TTA) for the exodus here yesterday.
Noorizah said 65% of motorists adhered to the TTA issued during last year's CNY.
Noorizah said PLUS would start facilitating better traffic flow by enhancing its services, including having additional lanes on the highway and toll plazas.
Touch N Go (T&G) reload booths at the toll plazas will be temporarily unavailable to reduce queues.
“However, we will provide more T&G services at the rest areas and 21 petrol stations along the expressway.
“Maintenance work will also be halted from Jan 20 to Feb 7 to reduce disruption to traffic,” she added.
Noorizah also reminded motorists not to hog the parking areas near the toilets and food courts along the highway to reduce congestion.
