Parliament is about to begin its daily meeting at 10am, fifteen minutes from now, amidst heavy security. Police have set up four road blocks to check on those coming to the House this morning.
Many journalists and government servants are stuck in the roadblocks mounted by police in and around the city.
Barbed wire was strung along the main road leading to Parliament House, while a K9 unit truck was parked near the security house.
While ministers and MPs had somewhat easier access to the building, Parliament workers and journalists have to flash their respective tags at each checkpoint to gain entry to the House.
The roadblocks in the city have been in place since Saturday, and were instituted following information received by the police about a “security threat” from an illegal demonstration planned today by Pakatan Rakyat supporters.
It is not known if the police will reduce their presence in and around parliament as the day progresses.
Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia is expected to rule on an emergency motion of no confidence in the prime minister and his cabinet after question hour later this morning.
At 9:30am, traffic from Jalan Tun Razak near Menara Dato Onn into Jalan Mahameru was reduced to a crawl as the main road leading into Lake Gardens was blocked by a police patrol car was placed across the road.
Several senior police officers were spotted at the blockade monitoring their staff turning away motorists intending to use the road.
