SEREMBAN: Police chased a fleeing stolen lorry carrying scaffolding as it crashed into other vehicles during peak hour traffic, smashed through a toll barrier and rammed into a patrol car before slamming into a guard rail and stopping on the highway near Pedas yesterday.
The two men in the lorry then clambered out and fled into the jungle.
The episode began at 8.50am when the lorry did not stop despite repeated warnings from two policemen trailing it in a patrol car.
District police chief ACP Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said that in their bid to escape, the lorry driver crashed into vehicles and kept on speeding towards Senawang.
“My officers wanted to question the men in the lorry as they had received information that both the lorry and the scaffolding had been stolen from elsewhere and were brought here to be disposed of,” he said.
It is learnt that the lorry was stolen in Cheras and driven to Terachi in Kuala Pilah. There, the men stole the scaffolding from a warehouse.
ACP Saiful Azly said the lorry driver also crashed through a police roadblock before entering the toll plaza near Senawang.
“The driver did not stop to take the toll ticket. He just crashed through the barrier at the plaza,” he said.
