KUALA LUMPUR: About 1,000 booths will be opened during the peak hours for this coming Hari Raya balik kampung exodus to ensure faster traffic flow at PLUS toll plazas nationwide.
This was a 25% increase from the usual 800 booths, said PLUS Expressway Bhd (PLUS) chief operating officer Nik Airina Nik Jaffar.
She advised motorists to use Touch ’n Go cards and the SmartTAG to avoid long queues.
“About 1.3 million vehicles are expected to be on the highway daily during the holidays.
“The heavy traffic is anticipated for the balik kampung exodus on Sept 27, 28 and 30; while return journeys are expected to be heavy on Oct 4 and 5,” said Nik Airina at a press conference in PLUS headquarters here yesterday.
PLUS advised the public to follow its travel time advisor (refer to chart).
“During Hari Raya holidays last year, travel on the highway was smoother as 60%-70% of the road users followed the advisory,” she said.
Nik Airina said more than 4,000 PLUS personnel, including 400 uniformed personnel such as members of Rela and St John Ambulance, would be on duty to assist the public.
The public can contact the toll-free PLUSLine (1800-88-0000) for the latest traffic update.
