Gophers shows the way

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It is a great tool for navigation, it can get you to places you have never even heard off without getting lost. It shows you the shortest route to get to your destination, some can even shows you alternative road so that you can avoid heavy traffic stretches. And also it can shows you point of interests and landmark and how far they are from your current location so that wherever you go, you know exactly where you are and what POIs are surrounding you.

GOPHERS Technologies Sdn Bhd announced that it will be launching two new 4.3in touchscreen GPS models — the Plus and Drive — sold under the Quatr-O series brandname that come preloaded with MapKing and free maps from Malsing Maps in early January.

The maps (just Malaysia or together with Singapore) are stored in the provided Secure Digital card.

Both models will ship with a voice guidance option, which is available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese. Each is also Traffic Message Channel (TMC) ready, which means that users will be able to receive live traffic feeds should the service be available locally in the future.

The higher-end Quatr-O Plus sports a cool pearl white screen surrounded with silver trim.

It is powered by the SiRF Atlas III CPU and runs on the Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 Core operating system.

Unlike similar devices in the market, the Quatr-O series doubles as a multimedia player that allows users to listen to songs as well as catch up on movies, Gophers claimed.

It supports WMA and MP3 audio formats as well as WMV and MP4 video files. These files are stored on the SD card and the slot supports a card capacity of up to 4GB.

That’s not all — the device also offers a built-in Bluetooth handsfree feature which enables users to pair it with a compatible mobile phone for safe driving.

The built-in virtual dialpad in the unit also allows users to dial out easily when it is in this mode.

In both cases — when playing movies or songs, or while listening to the caller — the audio is streamed to the in-car audio system via the Quatr-O Plus’ built-in FM modulator to enable users to listen better.

Additionally, the unit comes incorporated with an AV-in receiver, which is for wireless audio and video input — particularly useful when it is used with the reverse camera application.

Pricing for the the Quatr-O Plus starts at RM1,298.

The Quatr-O Drive comes in a sleek silver and black finish. It does not come with the FM modulator and the AV-in receiver as the Plus model — hence the slightly cheaper price tag.

You can get one from as low as RM998.
