Threat by schoolbus operators

SCHOOLBUS operators have threatened to take “time off” for two weeks if their demand for a fuel surcharge or reduction in subsidised diesel price is rejected.

China Press quoted Federation of Malaysian Schoolbus Operators Association chairman Chee Ah Tey as saying that he would tell members to “take a rest” to protest against the matter but it would be the last choice.

“We hope the Government can reduce the subsidised diesel price to RM1 per litre or allow us to collect a 30% surcharge. According to the law, we cannot go on strike but we can tak e time off,” he said.

The federation has about 8,000 members and the price of subsidised diesel for schoolbuses now is RM1.43 per litre.

Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board director-general Datuk Markiman Kobiran said action would be taken against operators who go on strike.
