KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department will soon begin to summon motorcyclists using helmets without the Sirim Bhd label, said Road Transport Department (JPJ) director of enforcement Salim Parlan.
He said the department was also studying the success of the awareness campaign by the Road Safety Department on the use of Sirim-labelled helmets.
“We need to get feedback from users. Right now we will not summon users of shabby helmets and those without Sirim labels but later we will start it.
“Motorcyclists should be aware about their safety on the roads,” he said after launching a road safety advocacy campaign at the Sungai Besi toll plaza yesterday.
Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh said his department and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) would study aspects of non-Sirim approved helmet usage among motorcyclists.
