THE Federal Territory Road Transport Department is taking the numbers game seriously as it can get as much as RM1.2mil a day from people who want special digits to adorn their car number plates.
Sin Chew Daily quoted Federal Territory Road Transport Department director Mohd Nadzri Osman as saying that the department earned RM445mil last year from the bidding of the special numbers.
“The earning from the bidding is 30% of the total income of our department,” he said, adding that although the country was facing an economic slowdown, income from such bidding was expected to drop by only 1% or 2%.
“Numbers one to 10 are considered the ‘golden numbers’ which can fetch between RM20,000 and RM100,000 while ‘high price numbers’ such as 11, 22, 33, 44, 88, 99, 777 and 6666 can go as high as RM8,000 to RM10,000,” he said.
