USJ3 folk still want a slip road

Postby admin » Sun Jul 26, 2009 2:26 am

RESIDENTS of USJ3A,B,C,D want a slip road built before the opening of the flyover linking their area and Batu Tiga in Shah Alam.

The slip road from Persiaran Tujuan in USJ to the Kesas Highway was one of the conditions laid out by the previous state government when the residents protested against the construction of the flyover in 2005.

However, the residents were informed by the developer that the slip road was not feasible.

“In the latest meeting, they said the highway concessionaire would not agree to having the slip road built,” resident Jason Lee said. According to the notice board at the construction site, the flyover is expected to be completed on Sept 2, 2009.

The residents insisted that the slip road is needed as a large traffic volume would be dispersed into their area, then into Persiaran Setia and Persiaran Tujuan once the flyover is open for public use.

“The flyover crossing Kesas Highway was built mainly to serve the Subang Heights and USJ Heights house buyers, but we foresee motorists from Shah Alam using this flyover as a shortcut to avoid tolls.

“We need a slip road to divert the traffic. If not, other alternatives must be identified.

“The flyover should not open until this condition has been fulfilled,” Lee said.

He added that the traffic impact assessment was conducted on an ad hoc basis, and thus did not reflect the true picture.

“Each developer carried out its own assessment, showing that the impact is minimal. But they should look into the overall picture,” he said.

USJ 3C neighbourhood watch chairman Yee Siew Meng added that the residents might conduct their own traffic impact assessment to find out the true figures.

Among other conditions imposed were the installation of traffic lights at junctions along Persiaran Setia, a pedestrian bridge in front of SMK USJ 12, sound barriers and a gantry at both ends of the flyover.
