GEORGE TOWN: Motorists travelling along the picturesque Batu Feringghi coastal road are wondering why it is taking the authorities months to repair a small stretch of the road shoulder that collapsed last month.
Although the road proper has been fixed, the state Public Works Department (PWD) has yet to complete related works like fixing the kerbs and clearing the area of materials.
A check showed that the PWD had yet to fully repair the collapsed road shoulder since the Aug 19 incident.
A cement mixer and safety cones were left strewn along the collapsed site unattended while the absence of kerbs has left motorists wondering about the unfinished work.
Motorist Mohamad Halim Awang, 34, criticised the PWD for not adhering to basic road safety measures.
"The department does not seem serious about solving the problem. The shoddy repair work is undermining the safety of motorists," said Halim.
Another motorist, Tan Ah Foon, 41, said the PWD should not drag its feet in repairing that stretch of the road.
"The state government needs to look into this matter quickly."
