IPOH: The Ipoh City Council is on high-alert to tackle any landslide incidents that might occur near the city.
Ipoh Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim said the council was monitoring the situation for any possible landslides, particularly near hilly areas.
“We have a unit going around on the lookout, especially along the Ipoh-Lumut highway,” said Roshidi when contacted yesterday.
Roshidi said they are ready to work together with the state Public Works Department and district land office should any cases of landslide occur.
Checks at landslide prone areas along the Jelapang-Changkat Jering highway showed plastic sheets and canvas had been used to cover the slopes at KM262 from the Menora Tunnel to Jelapang.
Cameron Highlands Vegetable Growers Association secretary Chay Ee Mong advised visitors and transporters to the highlands to travel in the day time during the rainy season.
He said landslides had happened along the Tapah-Cameron Highlands road before, even during the dry season.
