KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with the Christmas holidays, PLUS Expressways is offering Class 1 (passenger car) highway users toll discounts when they travel during off-peak hours on the PLUS and Elite highways.
Motorists will enjoy a cumulative toll discount of almost 20 per cent when they travel between midnight and 7am on Dec 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30.
PLUS Expressways managing director Noorizah Abd Hamid said the discount is part of the PLUS Travel Incentive programme, which costs the expressway operator around RM20 million a year.
"The Plus travel time advisory (TTA) issued during the last Hari Raya and Chinese New Year holidays was able to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smoother traffic flow on the North-South Expressway.
"As such, we advise the public planning to return to the Klang Valley on Dec 27 to follow the PLUS TTA."
Noorizah said past experience showed that even getting 50-60 per cent motorists to follow the TTA had helped to ease traffic flow.
PLUS sees more than 1.3 million vehicles pass through its highways in a day on average and 1.5 million vehicle users during festive occasions.
The TTA is a travel schedule based on studies conducted by PLUS on travelling trends during festive seasons the past few years.
It consists of recommended staggered travelling schedule based on designated time and destinations to reduce traffic congestion during peak periods.
The TTA and travel incentive programme will be a fixture at PLUS for another year at least, as an allocation for the programme has been approved by its board of directors.
